“the wonder of self-emptying”
To empty is not to vanish.
It is to pour the vessel
until the air itself
becomes a listener.
What remains is not absence
but a widening —
a room where another voice
may enter and be heard.

This is Buddhist roots in Taoism like. It speaks to the void and there is the importance and value of an object. It is not the pot that has utility but the space within. It is not the spoke of the wheel but the space between them. Cryptic you have made the old new in this poem and created a new dimension of it in the listening ear. In emptying the brain one makes room for what is of value. Cleaning out my garage makes room for my car. One must decide what is of greatest value to keep inside. An overstocked mind can not make room for new information even if it is the truth. A wonderful and wise write
Thank you for such a thoughtful response, Soren. I love how you drew out the idea of value in the space itself: "the pot, the wheel, even the garage". Your point about the overstocked mind really resonates with me. I’m grateful you brought your wisdom to the poem. 🕊️🙏
You are most welcome Cryptic it is my pleasure
I got poured out like a cuppa tea! lol. Doh! Wasn't anything in my brain/mind to empty to begin with. lol.
Thanks O!
My friend, this is quietly transcendent…emptiness redefined as invitation. You’ve written stillness that listens. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦⬛
I’m deeply touched by this, Tittu thank you. That idea of emptiness as invitation, and stillness as something that listens, is exactly the spirit I hoped the poem might carry. I’m so glad it resonated with you in that way. 🕊️🙏
Yo are most welcome, my friend! Beautiful poem!
yes, emptying is making space for something else, which may be bigger, better and ore beneficial too
That is quite so, thanks safina🕊️🙏🏻
yes, if you empty a place, you are in fact making space for another to enter and fill the void
well explained
