Cowboy Love

Matthew R. Callies

I was just a city boy, living in a concrete jungle

Never knew the beauty of the stars or the smell of fresh hay

Then I met him at a rodeo, he was riding on a bull

He had a hat and boots and a smile that took my breath away

He's my cowboy love, he's the one I'm dreaming of

He makes me feel alive, he's the reason I survive

He's my cowboy love, he's the one I'm living for

He's the sun in my sky, he's the fire in my eyes

He taught me how to ride a horse, he showed me how to rope a steer

He took me to his ranch and introduced me to his family

He kissed me under the moonlight, he whispered in my ear

He said he loved me and he wanted me to be his only

He's my cowboy love, he's the one I'm dreaming of

He makes me feel alive, he's the reason I survive

He's my cowboy love, he's the one I'm living for

He's the sun in my sky, he's the fire in my eyes

But then one day he had to go, he said he had to chase his dreams

He said he'd come back for me, he said he'd never forget me

But it's been a year and I haven't heard from him, I wonder if he still thinks of me

Or if he found another lover, another cowboy to set him free

He's my cowboy love, he's the one I'm dreaming of

He makes me feel alive, he's the reason I survive

He's my cowboy love, he's the one I'm living for

He's the sun in my sky, he's the fire in my eyes

I still miss him every day, I still hope he'll come back to me

But until then I'll keep singing this song, this song of cowboy love

A poem of love imagined, found and lost now just remembered. A sad poem of fond memories. Well done
