Remembrance of Iryna Zarutska, who lost her life on the way home from work.

Friendship

Iryna Zarutska, a whisper on the breeze,
Just twenty-three springs, a life of blooming ease.
A sweet, beautiful angel, with dreams yet to unfold,
Your vibrant story, tragically untold.
You didn't deserve the darkness, the brutal, sudden end,
By an evil man, whose malice sought to rend.
No rightful claim had he, no twisted, dark decree,
To steal the precious gift of your sweet liberty.
The world has shifted hue, since you were called away,
A quieter canvas, at the close of every day.
I am so deeply sorry you're no longer by our side,
Where joy and laughter with your presence would abide.
May peace embrace you, gentle soul, in realms serene and deep,
While silent stars their ancient, watchful vigil keep.
This evil man, who had no right, no soul, no grace,
Left but an empty echo in your rightful place.

A man with mental illness not treated for his past violence.
Courts, agencies, police and judges turned their backs in silence
His own mother said that he was ill
But no one was listening are they listening still?

Worse than his crime were the other on the train
Not a soul tried to stop him none would restrain
And after the deed was done and she lay on the floor
All the other passengers just walked out the door.

A great tribute to a sad case but unfortunately it is not the first or last in a society too numb to notice, to afraid to stand up and to isolated from each other to care. Well written my friend

Soren, I'm truly inspired by your insight on this. I didn't really know much about that alleged killer, but now that I'm empowered with knowledge, I thank you, my friend.OMG, you're so right, Soren. A man with untreated mental illness and a history of violence was neglected by the judicial system, law enforcement, and social services, despite his mother's pleas for help. Are they still ignoring his plight? The bystanders on the train exhibited a disturbing lack of intervention, failing to restrain him or assist the victim. Instead, they callously departed the scene, leaving her lying on the floor. This tragic incident highlights a societal issue where individuals are desensitized, fearful, and disconnected from one another. Is this a testament to a broader problem?

The problem has been there for a very long time. The famous case of Kitty Genovese in 1964 highlighted this apathy. The good Samaritan is the exception not the rule in society. It appears that it is not man's nature to help one in need.
