I Think You're Sore, I Think I'm Done

cdsplayer

My mom had asked about you today.

I told her we were fine, a small bite of a complex lie.

I told her we were still friends, a small truth I could mend to spend.

Today I missed you again,

Tomorrow I will miss you again.

Today I hated you again,

Tomorrow I will hate you again.

I miss your kiss, I miss your touch,

I miss knowing, to you, I meant that much.

Tomorrow I will see you in our place of work.

We will act the way we did before-

Before the kisses, before the touches.

Before knowing we wanted each other that much.

We will smile and bark our laughs,

And I will wonder if it has only been an act.

We'll go home, and you'll pretend I don't exist.

We'll go home, and I'll pretend it doesn't hurt to resist-

Resist reaching out for you, resist being the girl who wants a final kiss from you;

The girl who would let you come back to her all over again.

Wipe your feet at the door, grab the key beneath the mat,

Waltz right in, and oh, darling, I'm so glad you came back.

A poem that to me speaks of emotion over riding common sense. Here obvious lack of respect is ignored and disregarded in favor of hope and the fantasy that a relationship desired will work. Nicely done
