And They Call It Patriotism

Tristan Robert Lange

Freedom fracked by fears fomented,
Accepted by the moral majority—
Society turns a blind eye to suffering,
Callously shunning and banning  difference—
Identities reduced to patriot or foe,
Straight or too woke to fucking exist.
Murder starts with mind manipulation.

Alliteration begins this piece without peace. Short and to the point like a bullet it pierces hardened skin and sinks to the heart. Well written my friend and a fave

    • Tristan Robert Lange

Soren, I really appreciate that. Grateful it struck you that way, my friend, and honored to have it as a fave. ๐ŸŒน๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ๐Ÿฆโ€โฌ›

Dave, I hear you...patriotismโ€™s a loaded word that too often hides more harm than good. I just checked out your piece, and I appreciate you sharing it here. Thanks again! ๐ŸŒน๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ๐Ÿฆโ€โฌ›

Oh I'm surprised you haven't yet mentioned freedom of speech, and the Jimmy Kimmel story, because it truly shows the America of today, where Trump truly does rule... ๐Ÿ˜ข There is patriotism and there is extremism I truly in my 50 long years never thought I would see this divide so divided. Also in Europe we are having a moment, just the other day the red carpet was rolled out for Trump, we have been putting up with right extremists trite for so long, we don't even know how to begin to complain anymore, one rule for us one for them, but Trump owns the channel and takes Kimmel off, ever heard of Silvio Berlusconi? follow the link of David's poem, read what I and others have written lol ๐Ÿคฃ stay cool dearest Tristan.

                    • Tristan Robert Lange

Teddy, haha...shameful plug acknowledged, but yes: Iโ€™ve got a piece on the Jimmy Kimmel mess coming up in my Devilishly Dreadful series. Written in the moment, scheduled to drop a bit later...youโ€™ll have to wait for that payoff. ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿคฃ

As for Daveโ€™s poem, itโ€™s a good, sharp jab at the absurdities of patriotism...funny and pointed. Mine here is not the same angle. This one is an acrostic and aims at the broader climate where โ€œpatriotโ€ gets weaponised into a licence for fear and exclusion. Kimmel certainly fits into the picture, but the frame is wider. Appreciate you widening the convo, dearest friend. ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ—ฝโš ๏ธ

Let us read it aloud together. RESPECT

                      • Tristan Robert Lange

Rebellion, yesโ€ฆletโ€™s. Some poems demand to be spoken, to carry their weight aloud. Thank you for honoring it that way, my friend. ๐ŸŒน๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ๐Ÿฆโ€โฌ›

                      • Salvia.S

Your poem is intense and thought-provoking. The imagery is sharp, and the message about fear, identity, and blind patriotism comes through clearly. It challenges the reader and leaves a strong emotional impression. Well done dearest Tittu ๐ŸŒน โค๏ธ A fave for sure!!!!

                        • Tristan Robert Lange

Salvia, thank you so much. Iโ€™m really glad the sharpness of the imagery and message cut through the way I hoped. Blind patriotism dressed as virtue is one of the most dangerous poisons of our time...and it needs to be named. Iโ€™m so grateful it resonated with you, dearest friend. ๐ŸŒน๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ๐Ÿฆโ€โฌ›

                        • Friendship

The poem explores themes of oppression, societal division, and the moral complexities surrounding freedom and identity. It critiques a society that values conformity over diversity, leading to the marginalization of those who do not fit a particular mold.

                          • Tristan Robert Lange

Friendship, I really appreciate your careful read. Yes...conformity masquerading as virtue becomes oppression, and thatโ€™s exactly the tension I wanted to expose. Thank you for engaging the deeper layers here. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ–ค

I swear our country is a fever dream at this point. Been getting more stink eyes recently.

DeadRose, I feel that...the place really does read like a fever dream right now. Those stink eyes are just the surface sign of a wider rot: fear and judgment turned public. Thank you for your read and for saying it plain, my friend. ๐Ÿด๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ—ฝโš ๏ธ

you have nailed the issue in such a beautiful way, using fewer words [unlike me - lol]
                                  good work, keep it coming

They used to say, you're lucky you don't live in North Korea.
Who would have thought the secret police were watching us now.
