I’ve spent all my time fighting
To make you change your mind.
I know you’re through with me,
I say it aloud to myself
Yet I can’t believe a word.
I don’t care about what you say
I can’t care about anything but us.
You said some things I just can’t ignore,
You made me realise that I love you more.
I needed you but you left me first
And I couldn’t watch you walk away.
I changed to try and be the one you want
To be the one to fight by your side
To help with whatever you’re going through,
But you just let me go all by myself.
I’ve spent all my time trying
To fix something that couldn’t be saved,
It was broken to pieces from the start.
So you decided to wreck me more
By saying that you loved me.
I told you to go, I couldn’t deal anymore
But to be with you, I will always adore
The thought of you being here with me.
I won’t know what to do.
So if I decide to move on from this
And to ignore all the painful “what ifs”
Will that make you come back
To haunt me all over again?
Like we’ve just begun our chapter all over again?
Will you pass me on the street
And only see a stranger
Or will you cross the road because
You won’t want to look at me and
See me starry eyed with eyes still for you
Will that make you rethink all we’ve been through?
Or will you just think it never happened?

- Comment from author about the poem: I’ve written so much stanzas and lines for this poem but every time, nothing ever felt right. It’s all I’ve been thinking about when writing this poem, probably because I never thought I’d have to. All I’ve been doing lately is thinking “What if i did this..” or “What if i said something else..” only to realise it never mattered what I’d say. But in the end, life is life, what else can I do besides push through?

A poem of unrequited love that is more common than one would believe. Sad and a sense of pleading comes through but all to no avail. Well written
Sometimes you've just got to get on with it, and who knows what is waiting just around the corner.
Onwards and upwards.
