life's a journey.

Friendship

Time, like a river, ceaseless, deep,
Where secrets of our moments sleep.
You dip your hand, a fleeting grace,
But never can that water trace
The path it took, the journey made;
The current that has passed, will fade.
For what has flowed, in ripples bright,
Is gone forever, from your sight.
The glint upon a sunlit wave,
The silent vow our spirits crave,
The laughter shared, a whispered plea,
Are carried onward, wild and free.
That perfect instant, crisp and clear,
The joy, the sorrow, banishing fear,
Is swept beyond our grasp and might,
Into the vast, unending light.
You cannot touch the self-same stream,
Nor recreate a waking dream.
The drop that danced upon your skin,
Has merged with currents, deep within
The river's heart, that races on,
From dusk until the break of dawn.
The flow that's passed will not return,
A profound truth our souls must learn.
So let no precious hour depart,
Without a touch upon your heart.
Embrace the now, its gentle grace,
Its tender touch, its warm embrace.
Treasure each breath, each bloom, each gleam,
Within this beautiful, transient dream.
For life's a journey, swift and grand,
And every moment, shifting sand.
Live deeply, love with open hand,
Across this ever-changing land.
Hold fast to wonder, hold to truth,
Before the fleeting spark of youth,
And every 'now' becomes a 'then,'
Unreachable, beyond our ken.
Treasure each drop, each passing phase,
In all your bright and ephemeral days.

Memories of Heraclitus that a man can never step in the same river twice and carpe diem live for the day. So true it is. A lovely write and good advise. Nicely done Friendship

This piece carries river and memory together, my friend…your dad’s saying flows right through each line, shaping both the beauty and the ache of passing time. It’s steady, wise, and deeply human. Beautiful work. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

Extended Metaphor: The river as time is carried through consistently and beautifully. Lines like “You cannot touch the self-same stream, / Nor recreate a waking dream” echo Heraclitus’ philosophy, grounding the piece in timeless wisdom. Nicely written.
