Queen Selene

Tristan Robert Lange

Crescent goddess—
Yet they call you a man—
Silly boys inserting themeselves—
Nay, penetrating
The impenetrable.
Men may have landed—
Not even their astroids
Could violate you,
Radiant Queen
Selene
You shine on us still—

Us...still—

Your petulant children.

Haha, this is brilliant; men strut around bragging about “landing” on the moon, but she’s still up there glowing, untouched, rolling her eyes at us like the eternal mom we never outgrow. That “petulant children” ending? Perfect cosmic burn. 🌙🔥

Exactly! Reading this made me grin…you’re right, Selene’s still rolling her eyes while men plant flags and brag about footprints . Glad it delivered, my friend. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️

Beautiful in its images this short poem salutes the queen of the night, Isis, Andriamahilala, Diana, Luna, Ishtar. A lovely write and a fave

“Queen Selene” I have never heard of her before she seems quite the queen you’d see being reigned and grandeur. One to slay, one that stays true. As for the moon crescent, I love that although it’s not a full moon because of course the moon has so many phases she’s facing it fiercely. Her long flowing hair, it’s comb, the waves or wavy hairs gives. Well put together, your words and the entirety, the volume of your words, the expression of “ball” vibes, poetry vibez 🥂✨✨✨👊🏼

Keyara, this is such a generous read…the fierce crescent, the long hair flowing, the queen in her grandeur. You saw Selene’s strength and brought your own poetry to her. Truly grateful for your time and presence here. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦‍⬛

Did we ever meet her in person? lol. Did Popeye meet her? heehee. These comments get more and more obscure.

The poem explores the tension between feminine power and the often dismissive attitudes of patriarchal society. It highlights the contrast between the divine femininity represented by Selene, the moon goddess, and the trivialization of her power by men. The speaker addresses Selene as a radiant figure who remains untouched and revered despite the attempts of men to assert their dominance.

Impossible not to pay attention to, or as through the ages revere, the moon - Its beauty, its phases its effect on the tides… but even though invisible to me, I do feel saddened at the thought of its (her?) conversion into a parking lot.
                Keep up the advocacy, Tristan.

Does Queen Selene know Popeye? Doh! Not now, Popeye. I knew he would sneak in! heehee.

Such a short yet beautiful poem registering queen's beauty and charisma✨️
