Last night I had a dream,
But instead of the sun setting, it fell.
The stars were dim, yet glowed brighter with each passing second.
The moon was himself—pure as could be,
Whispering goodnight to every living thing.
But a girl in her bedroom was up reading.
Her eyes were blue, and her hair red.
Tears fell from eyes that held so much left unsaid.
I knew her pain—I felt her touch
As she turned the pages with a soft breath.
She read a heartbreaking story, one that held such sorrow,
One that couldn’t compare to today.
The moon frowned upon her as she drowned herself in tears,
Because he knew the real reason she was there:
Trying to mask her own pain with others’,
Wanting to erase her past in exchange for theirs,
Wanting to heal her own wounds with the stitches of others. .
I read the pages, and they were blank,
Soaked with tears from my own eyes as I masked the pain.
Yeah, I looked to the moon that was falling,
The stars that were dimming.
I had a dream last night,
But instead of the sun setting, it fell.
And the moon rose. The stars glowed, and my tears didn’t dry.
I had a dream— But really, it was my goodbye.

A most interesting poem of opposite expectations and the contrary nature of things. It has a mystical feel to it and one drifts through it like a dream. Very nice
goodbye gentle nightmare !
