AS IF A DREAM

nephilim56 ( Norman Dickson)

They are knocking down
The old brick bridge
Thats stood for a century
And more
Demolished the past
With violent steel
The rusted metal door
With an iron claw.

Light now shines
In modern age
Upon a portrait
Of long ago
The foundations
Built to last
Its ornate shadow
Cast no more.

The tracks upon which
Steam trains ran
Are overgrown
With railway weed
The sleepers cracked
And weather worn
Are forgotten
As if a dream.

Beautiful in and of itself it seems a metaphor as well of modern life where we replace the past with the modern be it technology or relationships. I miss the past. Very nicely written and a fave
