Where Hope Lay Dead

Matthew R. Callies

The frontier whispers tales of blood and dread,

Of Harpe brothers, sowing fear and pain,

Where innocence was lost, and hope lay dead.

From Carolina fields, their path was led,

By loyalist dreams, twisted and profane,

The frontier whispers tales of blood and dread.

A savage dance, where vengeance was their bread,

A twisted kinship, born of hurricane,

Where innocence was lost, and hope lay dead.

They stalked the wilds, where mercy rarely tread,

Their names a curse, a blight, a crimson stain,

The frontier whispers tales of blood and dread.

From Cave-In-Rock to fields of newly shed,

Lifeblood, their legend grew, a morbid gain,

Where innocence was lost, and hope lay dead.

The axe and knife, their dark, relentless spread,

A reign of terror, fueled by hate's refrain,

The frontier whispers tales of blood and dread,

Where innocence was lost, and hope lay dead.
