Last Promise

Aiswarya Girish

The time was war- in my mind and in

the world around me.

And then I saw him, the man with

those green eyes.

His smile melted the ice in my heart

He came for me, crossing seas and destinies

The man to whom my heart

surrendered

He ruled his people -

and rule my mind.

The poet in me awakened when we met.

He gave new meaning to my life,

taught me how to breathe in a different way

The nights our souls whispered-

secretly through the stars.

One day our love bloomed

in the silence between wars.

One night, it turned to ashes

He vanished without a word

And left me caged inside my own

heart,

with all the promises we once

whispered into stars.

Still, I wait-

for our last promise to come true:

the promise of being together

in our next life.

A love found the person lost and the wait for the next time around. All this put in good poetic terms . Well done
