Elegy for Diane Keaton (1946-2025)

Matthew R. Callies

In the quiet of October's embrace,
a luminous star has left the stage.
Diane Keaton, with her singular grace,
departed at seventy-nine, turning life's page.

From the streets of Los Angeles she rose,
with a style both quirky and refined.
In roles that spanned both highs and lows,
she left an indelible mark behind.

In "Annie Hall," she redefined the screen,
with wit and charm, a fresh new voice.
In "The Godfather," her presence serene,
made Kay Corleone a choice.

Her collaborations were many and deep,
with Allen, Hawn, and Midler too.
In "The First Wives Club," memories to keep,
her friendships forever true.

A director, writer, and mother of two,
Dexter and Duke, her pride and joy.
Her legacy, both rich and true,
will continue to inspire and employ.

Though her health declined in recent days,
her spirit remained ever bright.
In our hearts, her memory stays,
a beacon of love and light.

So here's to Diane, a legend so rare,
whose talent and heart will always be there.
May she rest in peace, beyond compare,
her legacy beyond all measure.

A beautiful tribute to a star of the screen. Nicely worded in most poetic form
