The hardest goodbye

Nicole Pritchard

I held on tight for what felt like forever

To the love that we had, to memories, to the the pain

But the weight of it all, it was suffocating me

Leaving me breathless, with a heart that couldn't beat

I loved you more than words can say

But the problems and fears, they didn't fade

I tried to make it work, I really did

But our love was drowning and I was losing myself in the tide

It's not that I don't love you, it's that I love me more

I love the person I'm becoming, the life I'm fighting for

I deserve to be free from the chains that bound

To find my own happiness, my own way, my own sound

Letting go doesn't mean I don't care

It means I'm choosing me and showing myself I'll be there

I'll hold my head high and walk away

Because I love you enough to set you free, but I love myself more today

Putting oneself first is important. It doesn't mean sacrificing for another is wrong but one has to know what one is doing. A lovely write
