To My Sister (Unspoken)

Gewar

I know we're not talking much,
Hope you know I care,
I can't read what's on your mind,
I'll always be there.

You don't know how many times
You have saved my life.
When I feel that I can't last,
I can see your eyes.

And I can't -
I can't
Be the one that has failed,
And I hate
The thought of
Pushing you to the edge,
'Cause you're there,
You have won -
I can't believe you'd be gone.
But you're still
Falling apart,
I cannot be the one.

  • Comment from author about the poem: This poem is about my younger sister, who once tried to end her life. We live apart, and I rarely see her — when I do, she often hides in her room. Still, I feel that she understands me more than anyone else. There were moments when I almost gave up myself, and the thought of how my death could destroy her was what pulled me back. This poem is for her — though she’ll never know it’s about her.

A very reflective poem of relationships. Nicely worded and sensitive to the need we have for each other
