The cruel pen
Of desperate power
Set to sign
From an ivory tower
A written decree
Signed off by a king
That will surely
Begin to kill.
Not directly
Not face to face
The cowards way
By signatures laced
Upon government letters
In ominous envelopes
Sent to the vunerable
Who have no hope.
The disabled
Those hanging on
With mental illness
The purge has begun
Those on hospital
Waiting lists
Those with chronic pain
An endless twist.
Austerity which
Takes so many lives
Under another name
Drenched in lies
Prime minister
Cabinet
Controlled mps
Those to die
Merely falling leaves.

This poem lays bare how austerity isn’t just economics but a quiet form of violence.
By showing policies as “signatures laced” with harm, it exposes how detached leaders can devastate lives without ever facing those who suffer. The imagery of the vulnerable as “falling leaves” drives home the human cost hidden behind official language.
spot on my friend. over 300.000 premature deaths in the 2010 purge in the uk
