Sonnet 1

Settes

We want to go back to when it was good

When everyone behaved the way they should

The comfort of childhood, nothing went wrong

When we lived the life of a Disney song

But a true recreation of the past?

“And not a filtered one?”:  you might be asked

All the negatives have been filtered out!

Why do we need this escape? Why this doubt?

If it’s a sad future we all foresee

Then closer to our past we want to be

But constant longing for times in our past

Will destroy our present, which may fade fast

Retrospection leads to paralysis

And in the end becomes our nemesis

This poem so cleverly worded in rhyme speaks to a subject that many would do well to listen to. The good old times were not always so good as we remember. However worse still are those that remember the past as always negative filtering out all the good to dwell in misery. The better way pointed out in the poem is live in the present, not that fond past memories to enhance the present are not good. Loved it a fave
