What is Forgiveness?

Friendship

Forgiveness wears a different face,
A silent truth for every soul,
A winding path, a sacred space,
To make a fractured spirit whole.
Yet at its core, a will defined,
A conscious choice, a firm decree,
To leave the bitter past behind,
And set the raging anger free.
The grip of hate, the sting of blame,
Released by spirit, strong and deep,
An intentional, internal flame
That purges resentments you would keep.
The act that wounded, sharp and stark,
May linger, etched within the mind,
A somber shadow in the dark,
A memory that you will find.
It doesn't vanish, clean erased,
The echo of the cruelest blow,
A history that's been embraced,
A truth that you will always know.
But in that grace, a strength you claim,
A gentle loosening of chains,
It won't nullify the deed's dark name,
But lessens how its power reigns.
The hold that sorrow had on you,
The heavyweight, the tethered heart,
Through forgiveness, it breaks through,
And let your healing journey start.
