Time Passes By

A piece of luggage

I wake suddenly because I know

I realised that one day the bright skies will fade into a blanket of white

Coating the ground and making us feel the end of the year was coming

It started with the clocks, turning back

I wish we could turn back

That single hour stolen

Whittled down the days and cutting into our nights

No longer was the evening ours to own

I used to think that I liked that

The darkness swallowing the day

With the leaves drying up and the cold to bring us together

But all it ever did was hide you away from me

In the blink of our eyes

Time passes by

And I'm left finding where you've gone

Left searching in the dark

Away and apart

Now the silence grows heavy, like the air before snow

Like the quiet before we step on the brown leaves of yesterday

But today they're all still

Dead and silent, confined in white

The air grew cold up by your window

I stood there once, hands deep in my coat

Is there another time in the year we could be together

Once again I asked

I saw you

Looking back

Maybe you'd open up?

I said "Let me in."

The cold convinced you otherwise

"Maybe one day you'd look down."

By then it'll already be spring

Some people say winter ends

That it melts into something softer, greener

But I’m not sure it ever really does

For some of us, it just learns to hide itself in new life

And if you ever wonder where I’ve gone

I’m still walking somewhere under that darkened sky

Thinking about all of the time we spent

Because, in the blink of my eyes

Time passed by

Trapping me under a white blanket

Time passed me by

Sad, melancholic, nostalgic and wistful it sings plaintively for union that never comes. Very nicely written
