Even when I know—
I want a hug,
I need a hug—
I’ll still step back,
And tell you to stay back too.
For if you came closer,
I wouldn’t know how to hold back,
Wouldn’t know how to hug back.
And then I’d just stand there—
Awkward,
Feeling like an empty vessel.
Wondering,
How to ask you—
To pour,
A little more.

The heartache I feel reading this...
The last line especially.
Beautifully written.
I wish I could favourite it twice! ❤
Thank you so much!!!
You are far from empty meera
Emotion oozes from your words
I'm sending a hug on the off chance
Thank you so much 🫠
A great metaphor in this poem of sadness and alienation where loneliness runs through the words like wine spilled on a white linen tablecloth. Very nicely written
Thank you so much!!!!
You are most welcome
You reminded me of a similar memory and I thank you for that Meera!
You're Welcome☺️
the longing, the desire, and yet the reluctance to make a move are so well depicted...i would suggest and hope that the step is taken, and there is no holding back so that the twain may meet- and there is no holding back from either side
Not taken but for sure someday.... Thank you though💞
will be rooting for it...take care
