Tear My Mask

Gewar

My heart is twitching,
And I need to close my eyes,
When I see you burst in flames,
And my face is flinching,
Scared that they would find me there,
They'd see how I am tricking them.
Say what I’m afraid to say.

Take me down,
To the hollow crowd,
Tear my mask,
Show them my despise,
Of their righteousness,
Full of pride and lies,
Make me dance,
Laughing in their face,
Make them think we’re mad.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Written after witnessing someone speak out with a kind of honesty I often hold back. It’s about the clash between composure and raw truth — and about the strange gratitude that follows when someone says aloud what you’ve been silently carrying.

Very identifiable and born out in research that many think the same way but are afraid to be the first to speak out. If one person has the guts to say something it can ignite the rest who will then speak out. The idea that it only take one. Nicely done

Something struck me that someone struck you as brave - and that you fear retribution in the case you follow in their steps.
