FUNERAL SUIT

nephilim56 ( Norman Dickson)

The funeral suit
On its hanger
Sombre blackness
Tie in pocket
Hangs in wardrobe
Like a loaded gun
Until its needed
Once again.

The white shirt
Still unwashed
Hides beneath
Its dark cloth
As it waits
Indeed does death
For its return
Its constant threat.

Fathers, mothers
And other kin
Religious text
And condemning sin
The funeral suit
On its hanger
Sombre blackness
Tie in pocket.

I liked the cadence and meter, the metaphor and setting in this poem. It read like the ticking of a clock counting down the seconds in a life. Well worded and foreboding it reads as dark as the suit. A fave
