Untitled {3}

Niko Papadatos

I stand on the top of my toes,

yet,

the path is still too long,

too winding.

Will I ever finish? Is the finish worth my time? Is the finish my true and definite finish? Will I live long afterwards?

To whom does this road benefit other than myself?

One step at a time I shall tread.

Until then, carpe diem.

Breathe in the air, swallow the rich, hear the pleasant, admire the awesome.

I shall then, lay the entire surface of my feet unto the ground.

You can wait… IT can wait.

    I love the tension created in this poem by its initial carpe diem attitude cast against its ending statement of patience that one can wait until then. a lovely contrast.
