Colorado

de Suin

I landed roughly.

The blue sky above me was waiting like a kind host.

The city that welcomed me was warm and sweet;

The tight embrace of the Rocky Mountains.

A car ride to your house, eventful uneventful.

Out the window those beautiful mountains encircle me.

I took pictures.

You laughed and teased me about it.

I couldn’t help it; we don’t have those home.

I yearned to go up every one of those mountains.

The altitude would not be kind.

Up those mountains, above 10,000 feet,

The lack of oxygen, suffocating.

I could skydive back to NYC from those heights.

And you. You’ll be hundreds of miles west and at least a mile above me.

Having to travel away from you again will make me dislike flying.

I wish we could always go up those beautiful mountains together.

..

The sky is blue and the sun is shining.

There are glaciers in some of them feeding one or two scenic lakes.

I drink the water and you laugh and tease me about a possible parasite infection.

How could one contract parasites in a place so clean?

We laugh and talk up the mountain.

I slide down the glacier and you laugh.

You fall down and we both laugh.

The descent just as tough as the ascent.

We see two moose by the lake and take pictures.

We take tens of rest stops and we eat and we talk and we relax.

The sun beautiful, the mountains beautiful, and you.

You and I and Colorado.
