Before the world ends
Let me rest in a cave by Cayey
So long as I can devour
Puma-rosas and carambolas every hour
To rid my flesh from its sluggish revival
Before forever let me sink again
Into the waters of my Mar Bella
Floating completely in the fullness
And that my feet find footing
At the bottom of her threshold
At those pearly gates
Let there be an abyss
Just like her.
I don't think I'll ever again
Dive boldly against the ferocious currents
Of her immensity, a terrifying consolation
Of being forgiven
Over thrashing and screaming
Lest she take me away
I am who I'd hate to see in Heaven, but even then
Should I be ridden
She lets me down with a gentle wave.
Let me fall and soar against the clouds
Let me jump from the stars
Before the skies descend upon the Earth
And I can't see them anymore
From those valleys by the pier
And the forests of the coast
Where I relished in not knowing
That my offenses boast.
Let me watch from the grave
For just a millennium
To rest a fraction from the friction
And quiet my flame
Against God for the nation, our nature, and my name.
