LEST WE FORGET

nephilim56 ( Norman Dickson)

The last post plays
He looks ahead
Tears in eyes
Remembering the dead
A father who failed
To return from war
Who never met his son
Never returned to shore.

A mother who tried
To keep him alive
In her thoughts
Hidden tears cried
Throughout the years
Both good and bad
The little boy
Without a dad.

A photograph
Always on display
In uniform
A smile to stay
Something missing
Despite her attempts
To keep the dead alive
No recompense.
