MOMENTS OF MADNESS

David Welch

My best days are behind me,
and the dark ones lie ahead.
I took the path less traveled on,
now I know where it lead.
I hold on tight to what I had,
but see it slip away.
They tell me this is how things are,
so what am I to say?

The world it makes no sense today,
no care of wrong or right.
One half is always offended,
and the other half won’t fight.
They said we could have everything,
the world was ours to take...
then turned around and snarled
when we called them out as fakes.

The paths they aren’t so clear now,
and they’re always being sold.
More and more it seems that life
won’t let you just grow old.
Maybe it was always thus
and youth has finally died.
Would I even have made it this far
if the world weren’t half a lie?

These are
moments of madness,
moments of fright,
moments of that crushing fear that keeps me up at night.
These are
moments of madness,
moments of fright,
they tell me to let it go, but I know I can’t, not quite...

Some really good lines in this poem and a topic that can be taken as dementia setting in or disillusionment with life in general and the way the world has progressed. Nicely written and highly identifiable
