“Those who cannot remember the past
are condemned to repeat it.”
Is it now too late, has the die been cast?
Will memories from the last century defeat it?

- Comment from author about the poem: This is a work-in-progress. I have an idea of using old wisdom and show it's relevance today. I thought I'd share this verse today (11th November) as it is the day that several countries remember the terror of the two World Wars

Excellent.
A famous quote with addition giving it more power still. Nicely done. I half thought that the quote that "in peace sons bury their fathers and in war fathers bury their sons" would follow.
Thank you.
Having had a few failed attempts, I think that placing these in poetic form is beyond my meagre talent. I have a handful of quotes that were going to be the opening stanza(s) of each verse but I cannot make the rhythm work.
Have a go:
• “Every nation gets the government it deserves.”
• “Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.”
• “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.”
• “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
• “Where they burn books, they will ultimately burn people.”
• "Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel."
All of them worth revisiting in these times.
Each one worthy of a poem and far to diverse to put in one poem alone. You are most welcome
