Somewhere Near the Far Side of Insight

Somewhere Near the Far Side of Insight

I don’t just look and see,

but I watch

and I savour and I learn

and then I try

to hoard what I find like

you would

small golden treasures ..

Each strung out

like pretty bunting across

the skyline of

an unfamiliar and all too

brief lifetime ..

As tiny and crisscrossed

as the faintest

of cracks in small glazed

earthenware pots ..

Still here, in my very own

shell I pretend

to bathe in old sunlight ..

While casually

wondering just how many

more wasted

horizons, sunsets, faces

and views,

shall eventually become

little more than

vague opaque scenes each

etched upon

the tired old retinas of this

nameless and near

forgotten mans fading dreams ..

Neville this poem reads to all us old pots as the shards that we will become. But remember that what is discarded on the trash heap of today becomes the archeological find of the future. Not that I have any illusion that anything I write will survive more than today but maybe if it touches one soul it might make some difference. When teaching there was no greater joy than to see a pupil that made it big come back to thank for the inspiration that they said made the difference in their life. So your words have touched many, me included.

I am truly honoured you have smiled so favourably on this and so many of my other little scribbles my friend .. Your words are invariably heart-warming and so very encouraging .. what more could an old scribe wish for .. Kindest of regards, Neville πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘

It has always been my pleasure and you are most welcome my friend have a wonderful trip. While sailing around South America you should stop by and see me. (I know those cruise ships don't like making unscheduled stops but if you tell the captain I'll make him a caipirinha with home made cachaca he might make an exception)

Starting from Still till end- breathtaking. Simply words pregnant with meaning. Perhaps that is what a good poem is all about. A definite fave.

Missed this - don't know how, you must be well and truly en voyage by now, but still I hope in the 'savor and learn' mode - other rumination for poetry sometime later..... oh, I see....

                      • Neville

These things happen so no worries brother Dog .. I have not long been returned & in one piece so please excuse what might otherwise seem like an uncharacteristically long delayed acknowledgement of your visit .. Seasonal best on its way to you n your gang .. Neville

I am not sure how I missed this poem, Neville, but late is better than never! LOL! This is deeply reflective…the way you linger with what’s seen and slowly slipping away. It’s tender, patient, and quietly heavy. Beautiful work, my friend. πŸŒΉπŸ–€πŸ™πŸ•―οΈπŸ¦β€β¬›

Good afternoon brother T .. I think this may have been composed as I was beginning to decompose due to the double pneumonia I developed which threatened to prevent me setting sail on a much needed re-habilitative South American cruise (which thankfully, I have only just got back from) .. I hadn't thought about it before but maybe that is why it reads as it does .. Anyway, thanks so much for finding it now .. I sincerely hope you are well and want to send my best seasonal good wishes to you and yours before another bout of jet lag takes hold of me again .. Tarah for now and hope to catch up proper asap .. πŸ˜ŽπŸ–€πŸˆβ€β¬›πŸ¦β€β¬›πŸ‘
