August afternoon in Germany

Lea Gagliardo

August afternoon in Germany

Blue sky peeps,

Through a white blanket,

As the landscape rolls by.

A girl across the table,

Works like a little bee,

Occasionally saying a few words.

Across the aisle,

A young German soldier,

Rests his eyes while he can.

Approaching its destination,

The train slows to a stop,

Letting passengers on and off.

All is good in the land,

There is peace, no war,

It is a good era to be alive in.
