When you find your rationality departs,
when you wish you could impress her,
when you can't seem to find the right words,
then you have found your love.
When you feel afraid around her,
when she makes every right thing you did seem wrong,
when you feel like saying, "Yes, ma'am,"
then you have found your wife.
My dear brother, do you hear the church bell ring?
Someone walking down the aisle?
Do you stand, pivoted in fear,
even before 'dear love' becomes 'dear wife'?
Please don't despair.
Many men better than you have testified:
To a wife, you are the problem—
something she loves to have around.
Dear brother, this poem is definitely not for submission to those elevated journals.
But your continuance depends on
your continued submission—carry on.

- Comment from author about the poem: Brotherly solidarity for the ever-oppressed class called husbands. After nearly three decades of mouthing \\\'yes ma\\\'am\\\', I felt qualified to offer wisdom.πππ€£

It is the paradox of time eternal where masculinity bows to femininity behind closed doors. It has happened from pauper to king and from the cave to the present. Some hide it better than others but it is not the presidents that rule but their wives. Well done
Thank you so much for the read and your support. Deeply appreciate them π
Most welcome Rebellion
Amen to your comment! π€£ My friend, this carries the weight of loss and the eerie tenderness of presence-in-absenceβ¦you wrote the shape of grief without ever naming it. Beautiful work. πΉπ€ππ―οΈπ¦ββ¬
