Washed Ashore

Gewar

Words like waves
Reverberate —
A thundering echo of the pain.
Aftershocks shatter and break;
They have no mercy, but I don’t beg -
I drown.

Into the dark,
Descending rock,
I lose all hope, I lose my breath.
The storm is gone,
But I have no strength left.

The only noise
Is the soothing voice
Of fading pulse between heartbeats.
I can’t escape - I am too deep -
I fall asleep.

The water’s low,
I’m washed ashore.
A dancing light
On beds of sand
In the low tide.
And through the tears
I can’t believe
That I am here,
Breathing the air -
The sky is clear.
