I Started Talking to God

Aziza S

I started talking to God

Because I miss you so much.

May you lend him your ear,

and listen for my prayers---my conversations to you

I talk into the silent air,

in hopes of a reciprocated

whisper

For as long as I've known, I've never believed in anything

But I believe in you

I believe you're out there

Somewhere

Anywhere

Watching me

Loving me

Please hug me

the next time you visit my dreams

I don't pray to God,

I just talk to him

But I pray to you.

I miss you.

  • Comment from author about the poem: my grief has transform into my own non traditional religion. i now my prayer to someone no longer here and i know wherever they are, they can hear me. even though it's a one-way only phone call, I dial them often.

A very personal poem of belief and love. Nicely done.
