EXPENSIVE DRUGS

nephilim56 ( Norman Dickson)

Go fund me
Pages rise
For children
In decline
Government cant
Afford the drug
Its too expensive
What the fuck ?

They waste billions
Every year
On pet projects
To thin air
But children
And parents hope
Too expensive
Gone in smoke.

The government office
That treatment denies
Is abbreviated to N.I.C.E.
That makes me smile
So the children die
Parents asking why
No money for life and hope
This country is a joke.

The name is an ironic but sad joke. I do understand the dilema at its extremes where the cost of medication has climbed out of reach of the common man and at that cost treating the poor with drugs that the middle class can't afford themselves but pay for others to receive through taxes is another ethical dilema. Socialized medicine is one answer with its own problems. Still it boils down to with limited resources who gets them. This poem is where emotion and charity meets the road of reality and cost. Maybe our eyes are teared up with the smoke of believing in medications as the best cure and the desire to extend life where nature never intended it to go. A hard thing being a parent myself to think. Most thought provoking look what it did to me. Tor that a fave
