Castle In The Sand

Freedom4

A sense of tranquillity and peace.
Just frolicking by the shore,
A girl's euphoric kind of moment
That doesn't happen anymore.

A symbol of her joy
Was the starfish on the beach.
But recollection of that time
Is now so far out of reach.

Her struggles have been hard.
Her voice is never heard.
The pounding of the waves
Silencing her every word.

Your warm breath upon her cheek,
She so desperately wanted to feel.
As you whispered words of comfort,
Her soul would surely heal.

Saying 'I will take care of you,
It's going to be okay.'
But your silences have taught her
She's not worthy in that way.

She only wanted you to pick her up
And to hold her little hand.
But instead, you let her crumble
Like a castle in the sand.

The young little girl
Grew a tough outer shell
Protection from the prey
She knew all too well.

Now she's all grown up.
It's been many, many years.
The shell has become much stronger
And still no one ever hears.

Gazing in the distance,
Watching the tides recede,
Parallels any hope
That you will ever believe.

Listening to the water,
There used to be comfort in that sound.
Now there's a feeling of being pulled under.
And no way to turn around.

As the water pounds the rocks,
And the pieces begin to fall,
She is broken, and she is shattered.
No one senses this at all.

An invisible fragment of her being
Over the years, she became.
A shell of her existence
A life of guilt and shame.

She only wanted you to pick her up
And to hold her little hand.
But instead, you let her crumble
Like a castle in the sand.
