Maybe it was never about love

Simran_

Longing for love isn’t really the desire to be loved.
It’s more like searching for someone who fits the pieces of you
that went missing a long time ago.
Not someone who makes living harder,
but someone steady enough, gentle enough,
persistent enough to keep you here a little longer.

Sometimes, it’s the idea you fall for,
in the abyss of your thoughts,
the idea of being cherished like in the movies,
loved like in the books,
appreciated like in the poems.

Or maybe, it’s wanting to be the author who loves,
or the quiet hand shaping the movie you’ve been carrying in your mind
and maybe, to finally become
what you once only longed for.

A love that steadies you,
yes, that too.
A love that never feels like a chore,
that doesn’t drain you,
just warm enough to keep you grounded

so yes… maybe it was never love you wanted,
just the feeling of finally belonging somewhere.
a place your heart could rest without fear,

  • Comment from author about the poem: i wrote this during a moment when i realised love wasn’t the wound expectation was. just a small reminder: sometimes we don’t crave love we crave safety, softness, and somewhere to finally rest.

There is deep understanding here of the most profound existential type. Many of us search for the illusion of love in many forms and you have identified one in this poem. Lovely
