does love exist

applecherry

I've asked people if they believe in true love,

I'm surprised to find out,

that a lot of people I know,

do not.

they believe in connections,

intimacy, smiles, and joy,

not true love,

connected spiritually,

intertwined hearts,

open minds,

souls meant to be,

love

I don't think this gives me hope,

I don't know what to believe.

I know that my last was a connection,

but also I know it was love.

Or was it infatuation?

comfort?

familiarity?

Do I have to believe it was anything other than love to be happy,

to lose the meaning of love to move on?

Can it not have been love?

but just not meant to be?

Does everyone tell themselves,

it wasn't love,

to sleep a little better?

to not be reminded in the morning?

do we have to resort to resentment,

or to rewriting the past,

to make peace with the present?

I want to move on,

but it hurts thinking I have to disregard,

everything I loved and cherished,

in order to be free.

comments said so easily,

of how people,

'thought'

it was love,

but now they know better?

what changed ?

you fell out of love,

but does that mean love never existed?

A most quizzical poem. Love does not leave passion does. Love is one sided and only rarely two. It does not depend on the other just the self. A lovely poem
