I draw you in
Five rings of smoke appear like magic
Your face on every one
Christ, how romantic am I
Maybe drink a JD in your honour
It's amazing how little things bring you to me
The phone comes alive halfway through your honour
Your soft sexy voice sends a tingle down my spine
You say it's over
Well, that was out of the blue
I draw you in
The sign on the packet
Smoking can damage your health and eventually kill you
So profound
I check the bottle of JD
No warning on that
You disappear into the clouds
Every one a silver lining.

Intended or not I read between the lines here. The things in life that are not good for us that we choose as little pleasures, cigarettes, alcohol and love. All a threat to life and one's well being. What is life worth without the pleasures of it. A fave
Yes, they all come with a health warning which we ignore.
Horrid at all times! Smoking I mean, not the poem! lol. Glad it's been banned from buses, shops, etc. I used to hate it when people could smoke upstairs on buses.
I never knew that you knew me. Note to self: Nooooo, he don't mean you! lol.
Best thing they ever did was barring it from pubs.
I forget some - many? - people still smoke, until I see them outside an office, etc, on a smoke break. Horrid!
This poem serves as a cathartic exploration of love and loss, allowing the speaker to articulate feelings of longing and the complexities of moving on after a significant emotional connection. The reference to smoking and drinking suggests coping mechanisms for dealing with grief and nostalgia.
Probably why drink was invented.
Paul, you balance humor, heartbreak, and resignation in one clean sweep… a breakup wrapped in smoke and silver. It lingers. 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦⬛
Smoking, drinking and women, it's like triple whammy.
Totally! Like the game show, Press Your Luck...if you're familiar...and you never know what will happen when those whammies pop up! LOL!
Yer good book says "Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die" No wonder ye're in the deepest do dos if yer don't follow the good book....

That there Good Book really gives you plenty of scope if you read it extensively.......
