The Last Ring on the Tracks

EchoCanvas

Today, something broke inside me.
A railway accident… a life ended too soon.
I walked toward the still body with a trembling heart,
terrified it could be someone I knew.
It wasn’t.
But pain doesn’t need familiar faces.

He lay there with nothing beside him
except a phone placed gently on his chest,
as if it was the last connection he had to this world.
And then suddenly—
the screen lit up:
“Abba" calling....

In that moment, my breath stopped.
My eyes filled before I could hold them back.
A father waiting…
a call that would never be answered…
a story that ended on cold tracks
while the world continued to move.

  • Comment from author about the poem: Based on a true incident I witnessed today, 26/11/25 (around 11.34 am ) — first time seeing a railway accident . It shook me deeply, but the moment that broke me was seeing the phone on his chest suddenly light up with “Abba”(Dad/father) calling.. a scene I can’t forget . Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un .
