It was only a strand of grass,
I thought
It would be nothing,
It was just
For fun;
I tossed it into the well.
Only minutes later
My friend came running
And wanted a drink.
I lowered the pail--
Fed it to them--
and
then
they
fell.
They couldn't breathe
And I realized
I had poisoned the well
And killed my friend.

A metaphor of great power, guilt and unintended consequences. Lovely
Thank you!
Most welcome
🥷, my friend… the innocence, the accident, the sudden grief… you wove all of it into this clean, devastating arc. It lands exactly the way it should. Very well done, as always, my friend! 🌹🖤🙏🕯️🐦⬛
Thank you so much for reading!
