You're just not worth it.
I spoke of how two simple words of yours,
Had breached the threshold of my inner doors;
A quiet limit that my mind had met,
A simple truth I shared without regret.
But in return for this soft-spoken plea,
You launched a sudden, sharp hostility;
You cast me down, a lesser form defined,
A target for the cruelty of your mind.
You aimed your scorn at where I cannot yield,
And struck the flaw my nature has revealed;
My heightened senses, delicately spun,
Became the weakness that you seized upon.
You named my sensitive personality
A failing in my frail humanity.
I made it plain: my brain accepts the input
In patterns different than the common route;
A variance I sought to make you see,
A function built uniquely into me.
But empathy was absent from your gaze,
Lost in the conflict of those angry days.
Since basic dignity you could not grant,
And chose derision over understanding's plant,
The space between us has become too vast,
The memory of true respect surpassed.
I gather up the pieces of my worth,
And turn away to seek a kinder earth.
The lack of reverence dictates the end.
There is no path that we can further wend.
I choose my peace, my selfhood kept intact.
It is goodbye. I honor this final act.

A poem where pulling in and withdrawal are a protection from great pain and hurt. It is at times easier to fly than confront. So well worded and constructed it speaks to the perceived attacks of an unaccepting world. Fragile enough that two words can breach the inner doors and leave one exposed. A raw expression of hurt and pain so profound that building barriers is one's only defense. Very nicely composed and rhymed.
