BURNING AFTER MIDNIGHT

David Welch

Burning after midnight,
burning in the dark,
right now it feels all right,
just gotta get some more.
Feeling all the heat now,
burning is all the rage,
reeling and don’t know how
I got into all this.

Waking to the daylight,
come the break of noon,
coffee now is in sight,
keeps me limping on.
Sunshine seems a fiction,
wish that it would end,
some call it addiction,
I don’t know how to leave.

Burning up my insides,
searing round my heart,
nerves wrapping up tight,
each and every night,
fire burns down to ashes,
cinders on the ground,
know not what my past is,
but my future’s burning out…
