Forward Felt Like Falling

Iris Nazarene

There was a night
when I tried to slip out of the world
quietly without a plan.

Like a naive child running from their home wanting to be free.

Unaware of the consequences before them, the yearning to be gone gave them the adrenaline they craved.

Running farther and farther away,

not being able to stop from the internal pain, because the rush felt too good to stop.

Turning back was never an option once they couldn't stop going forward.

Hurting, aching, and growing desperate for the pain to end.
