THE HOTTEST DAY

nephilim56 ( Norman Dickson)

The hottest day
For twenty years
Vibrant youth
Without fears
Wandering free
From the flower
The birds
The tree.

The winding path
In twilight laid
By the long grass
In surrounded fields
A Summer sun
That falls
In waves
Memory trades.

Its vibrant echo
Dancing to
Memories laced
In fondness new
The gypsy dress
Your falling eyes
Lips which told
So many lies.

Lips which told so many lies. This line for me ties the previous bright memories and images to something darker and more painful. I love the merging of the two. A lovely poem

A fine write N. Aww, why they call it the Shortest Day? Would you prefer it be called the Longest Night? lol. Both have 24 hours. Eh?!

How did you spend that extra second we had one year? I did a poem saying I spent it, e.g. going round the world 3,574 times; flying to the moon and back 4,862 times; reading 6,846 books - something like that. I forget the exact numbers. Must be time-lapse. lol. I'm afraid I spent that one second all at once.

Yes, I still feel I wasted that second. Could I have done more in it?! lol.
