You showed me the different colors
of dragonflies,
their wings flashing blue and gold
as they skimmed the air.
You pointed out the ant mounds,
the wasps humming their warnings,
and the moths
that unfolded like soft flowers
from their chrysalis.
The tiny world fascinated you,
and you invited me into it—
each creature a treasure
you couldn’t wait to share.
Before my panic attack
Tore it all away—
In the middle of the woods,
Past the water—
Where I swore you would propose.
Down on one knee,
Tossing stones that skipped
The waves.

So romantic and full of nostalgia it touches the heart. Nicely done and a fave
Thank you!
You are most welcome
That last stanza speaks of a tragic misinterpretation. Was what could have resolved into a a strong bond and friendship ever occur?
I understood your deep situation very well thanks to the clarity of your writing.
Well, he still hasn't proposed lol. But we have been together for 7 years.
Even a cynical old bugger like me can feel warmed by that informati0n.😊
Love this . A fave.
Thank you so much!
