A VIOLENT NIGHT

nephilim56 ( Norman Dickson)

A bare light burns
Upon the face
Of nights intensity
Thoughts invade
Deeper regions
Like soldiers lined
Each a killer
Without a crime.

A stifling scent
Upon the air
That mocking lightbulbs
Threatening stare
Flickers again
Its heat reflects
Its threats mundane
The light it sweats.

One more drink
A cigarette burns
The exit marked
Violence flares
Its 2 am
Too drunk to fight
I am a witness
Of this violent night.

If the theme was not so violent. I would say - a bad-hair night then? Instead of a bad-hair day!

    • nephilim56 ( Norman Dickson)

Oohh yes, I have bad-hair nights, when I've taken me curlers out! Do you too? lol.

        • nephilim56 ( Norman Dickson)

White hair and grey hair is seen as to be respected, honoured, noble, etc in the Bible! I bow before you, sir, and kiss your boots. Oops, the Bible also says we must not be idolaters. (heehee).

            • nephilim56 ( Norman Dickson)

I accept your bow, no one else bows to me lol, religion and I dont mix too well

There's short programmes of different faiths. With Buddhism, it's an obvious example of idolatry as they are praying to, and worshipping, a statue - a block of wood, or stone, or whatever it's made of.
Now I might bow, but I draw the line at kissing your boots. Must I? heehee.

                • nephilim56 ( Norman Dickson)

No kissing of boots I promise lol

Thoughts can be violent not in physical but mental and emotional manner. A long and lonely night can easily foster them. Well written

Well written, this poem serves to explore the darker aspects of human experience, reflecting on how external environments can influence internal states, as well as the fragility of human existence in the face of violence and chaos. The poet's reflection may be a form of catharsis or an attempt to make sense of a turbulent experience.
