I Don't Sleep In My Bed

Anthony Hanible

Night by night

On the couch

Is where I lay my head

Night by night

My side stays empty

Night by night

Month by month

It's about to be a year

From the last time

I don't know

Unfortunately

Uncomfortable

My body won't let me lay down for to long

Unfortunately

Uncomfortable

This couch feels

Unfortunately

Uncomfortable

My sleeping situation

Is killing me

I wish I could go to sleep in my bed

We grow accustomed to certain things even in their discomfort and then again there are times that others angry at us force us from a place of comfort to much less comfortable place. Metaphor or literal a good write all the same

Your poem expresses loneliness, physical discomfort, and emotional exhaustion, centered around the repetitive image of the speaker trying — and failing — to find rest on a couch. On the surface, it’s about sleepless nights and an aching body, but underneath, it’s about emotional displacement — not being able to return to a space (the bed) that once offered comfort and intimacy. Well Done Anthony
