The first time you smiled, the world stood still,
Like dawn breaking over a frozen hill.
Light found its way into places unknown,
Warming a heart that had turned to stone.
I carried winters deep in my chest,
Learned how to breathe while feeling my best
Was far away—buried under the ice,
Paid every day with a lonely price.
Then there you were, no grand display,
Just one small smile that refused to fade.
It cracked the cold I wore like skin,
Letting forgotten warmth rush in.
No firestorm, no burning flame,
Just gentle heat whispering my name.
A steady thaw, a patient art,
Soft hands unfreezing my guarded heart.
Your smile spoke truths my soul could hear,
Said, You are safe. You belong right here.
It didn’t demand, it didn’t try,
It simply stayed while the walls ran dry.
I felt my ribs loosen, felt myself bend,
Felt something broken begin to mend.
The frost retreated, the ache grew small,
As love rebuilt what fear let fall.
Now when I breathe, the air feels new,
Every warmth leads back to you.
That first smile lives where my heartbeat starts,
The moment you melted the ice from my heart.
