Where meadows and shores mourn

Narayan Gadagkar

Two continents apart, one north of equator

The other in deep southern hemisphere

Two great nations India and Australia bear

the brunt of gun men, the ruthless slayers.

The gorgeous hills, vales, and mellow slopes

Pahalgam green meadows, the serene spots

Ringed by snowcapped high mountains

Some were dancing, some were on reels

Some on pony rides some on treks and jaunts.

Far away white sandy shore of Bondi the name

In Australia’s Sydney, the coast has a fame

On the Campbell parade near Archer Park

First night of festival of lights, the Hanukkah

Began the annual celebration of Chanukah.

Upbeat with music and Menorah candle lights

Petting farm, jumping castles, Chanukah crafts

The fun events planned to align the sunset

Glued to Pacific oceans’ sky horizon at best

Jubilant crowd watched the sun to descend.

Alas! The ecstasy of celebration was muted

Two wild gunmen on rampage pumped

The bullets on the innocent and were pounded

Father and son, duo the perverted creed

Turned the festive spot to a mourning ground.

Two peace loving nations lost the lives

Of their beloved in cold blood murder

Pattern of butchery   remained same ever

The extremist mindset, hate and bigotry

Meadows in India then and the beach in Australia

now echo in torment, grief, and agony.
