Snow Demons by Alexander Pushkin

Ksey_Gan

Clouds rush and swirl clouds,

The invisible dull moon

Illuminates the flying snow,

The sky is cloudy, the night gloom

I ride, ride in an open wide field;

The bell ding-ding-ding so  fast

It is scary, scary unwittingly

Amidst unknown sad plains!

"Hey, get going, coachman!" — "No power!

The horses are struggling badly, master;

The blizzard is blinding my eyes now.

All the roads are covered in snow disaster.

Kill me, but I can not  see a straight trace:

We’ve lost our way. What should.we do!

The demon leading through the field us

And circling around as leapfrog too.

Look: there, there he is playing vagary,

Blowing, spitting on face mine;

There — now he is pushing so stoutly

A crazy horse into a dark ravens

There as  an unprecedented milepost

He loomed right before my face,

There he flashed as a tiny  spark most

And disappeared into the empty darkness."

Clouds rush and swirl clouds,

The invisible dull moon

Illuminates the flying snow,

The sky is cloudy, the night gloom.

We have no strength to circle down slow.

The small bell suddenly fell silent off.

The horses stopped... "What's there in the snow?”

"Who knows? A huge stump or a grey wolf?"

The horses rushed again few rather,

The bell ding-ding-ding...again.

I see: the spirits have gathered

Amid the whitening plains their chain.

They are endless , ugly, miserable

In the cloudy game of the moon,

Different demons began to circle,

Like leaves in the autumn  noon

How many of them! Where are they driven?

Why are they singing so plaintively?

Are they burying a huge brownie,

Are they marrying of a witch, surely.

Clouds rush, swirl clouds;

The invisible dull moon

Illuminates the flying snow;

The sky is cloudy, the night is gloom.

Demons are rushing, swarm after swarm all

In the boundless strange heights,

By  plaintive squeals and howls,

Breaking they my heart’s rest
